MusEducate: Explore, Create, Share
Transforming Rural Museums into Community-Driven Adult Learning Hubs
Across rural Europe, museums often remain disconnected from everyday community life, perceived mainly as tourist destinations rather than shared cultural spaces. At the same time, many adults face persistent gaps in digital skills, limiting their access to employment, lifelong learning, and civic participation.
MusEducate responds to these challenges by reimagining rural museums as vibrant hubs of adult education, where local communities actively create, share, and reinterpret their cultural heritage through digital storytelling and gamified experiences.
At the heart of the project is an intergenerational approach: older adults contribute valuable oral histories and local knowledge, while younger adults bring digital confidence and creativity. Together, they co-create meaningful narratives that strengthen inclusion, social cohesion, and community ownership of heritage.
MusEducate is a 32-month Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership that will:
- Train 250 adult learners (25–65) in digital storytelling and creative digital skills
- Develop 50+ gamified digital heritage narratives linked to museum collections and local history
- Engage 500 local residents through workshops, pilot activities, and community events
- Equip 50 museum professionals and facilitators through a dedicated MOOC and practical guidance
- Foster intergenerational collaboration involving 100 older adults and 150 younger adults, including participants from disadvantaged backgrounds
- Disseminate results widely, aiming to reach 5,000 Europeans by 2030
Note from the Coordinator
“ MusEducate goes beyond rethinking the role of museums; it repositions them as living, participatory spaces where people, heritage, and learning intersect. By placing communities at the heart of cultural heritage and embracing intergenerational exchange, the project creates meaningful bridges between local knowledge, personal stories, and digital creativity.
Through innovative storytelling, gamification, and inclusive learning approaches, MusEducate empowers rural communities to actively engage with their cultural heritage, strengthening social cohesion, digital skills, and lifelong learning opportunities. Our ambition is to transform rural museums into open, accessible community hubs, spaces that inspire collaboration, foster a sense of belonging, and ensure that cultural heritage remains a shared, evolving resource for present and future generations.”
